Rachel Renée Russell is an American author of the #1 New York Times best-selling humorous children’s book series's, Dork Diaries, and The Misadventures Of Max Crumbly.
Dork Diaries chronicles the daily life of the main character, Nikki Maxwell, as she struggles to fit in and survive middle school. The book series is written in a diary format and includes doodles, drawings and comic strips.
"The Misadventures Of Max Crumbly" chronicles the daily life of the main character, Max Crumbly, as he struggles to survive middle school, and people that trap him in lockers. The series was made because of Max Crumbly's appearance in Dork Diaries: Tales From A Not-So Perfect Pet Sitter. The book series is written in a journal format and includes doodles, drawings and comic strips.
The Dork Diaries books are based on the middle school experiences of her two daughters, Erin and Nikki. Her older daughter, Erin, helps with writing and her younger daughter, Nikki, helps with illustrations. The main character, Nikki Maxwell, is named after her daughter.
The oldest of five siblings, Russell grew up in Saint Joseph, Michigan, but currently resides in Northern Virginia. She is also an attorney. Russell has stated that writing Dork Diaries helped her to cope with her divorce.
