Roy Wang (Chinese: 王源; pinyin: Wángyuán) (born November 8, 2000) is a Chinese singer, songwriter and actor. He is a member of phenomenal teenage idol group, TFBOYS, which debuted on August 6, 2013.
His first solo single, "Because I met you" (Chinese:《因为遇见你》), which he wrote both the lyrics and music, won Fresh Asia Music Charts top 10 singles of the year in 2016 and the 9th CityFM City Super Chart favourite new singer of the year. He composed the music for the song "The Best of Time" (Chinese:《最美的时光》) for his high school's 80th anniversary.
Roy is one of China's most influential teenagers with more than 18 million followers on the Chinese microblogging site, Sina Weibo (name handle "TFBoys-Wangyuan"). In Weibo's Celebrities Whitepaper published in September 2016, Roy Wang was named as the most popular for consecutively 2 years in a row (2015-2016).
Roy represented China at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, held from 30 to 31 January 2017 in UN New York headquarters. He spoke at the forum and called for equal access to quality education for young people worldwide.
Roy Wang is of Han ethnicity, with ancestry from Shaanxi. He was born in Chongqing, China.
Roy Wang is currently a high school year 1 student (2019 batch) at the prestigious Chongqing Nankai Secondary School (high school), one of the top high schools in China. During the high school entrance exams, Roy Wang came in first in the art talent students auditions to gain extra points and was eventually admitted to Nankai.
He was previously from Nankai's junior high school and was part of the school's choir. Roy revealed in his diaries published by his talent agency that he won first place in his grade in the school's short film competition. He received color pens as the award.
He had a pet Poodle, called Du Du (Chinese: 嘟嘟, male, breed: toy poodle), since September 2014. Roy has shared several photographs of Du Du in his Weibo account. In November 2015, it even appeared in Chongqing Fire Brigade's promotional poster together with Roy, who was promoting the brigade as part of TFBOYS’ charity work. However, Roy revealed in variety show "Happy Camp" (aired on October 1, 2016) that he had given Du Du away to a friend as he was away from home for extended periods and could not take care of his pet. He added that he will only consider having a pet again when he is able to fulfil his responsibilities as a pet owner and care more wholesomely for his pet.
