Johannes Theodor Schmalhausen (1849 – 1894) was a botanist, known for his studies of East-European plants.
He studied sciences at the University of St. Petersburg, earning his magister degree in 1874. For several years he was a professor of botany and director of the botanical garden at the University of Kiev. The genus Schmalhausenia (family Asteraceae) is named in his honor.
