Sohrab Kashani (Persian: سهراب کاشانی) is an Iranian interdisciplinary artist, art curator and writer. He is the founding director of Sazmanab, independent not-for-profit art organization and residency program in Tehran.
Super Sohrab, Kashani’s alter-ego is an unsuccessful super hero who uses satire and failure in his attempts to fix local and global sociopolitical problems. Through the documentation of his failures, via text and interviews, Super Sohrab addresses problems both big (daily repercussions of US sanctions on Iran) and small (checking his Facebook profile). In his attempts Super Sohrab has addressed the US sanctions on Iran, visa complications for Iranians, Tehran’s air pollution among other pressing topics affecting Iranians in Iran and in diaspora. The Super Sohrab series comprise performative interventions presented in photographs, videos, comics and text.
Sazmanab, is an independent not-for-profit art organization and residency program in Tehran. Sazmanab was established in 2008 by Kashani and was originally based in Sadeghiyeh district in the Western part of Tehran. As of 2016, Sazmanab creates projects and publications, and hosts exhibitions and events off-site in collaboration with other spaces and venues.
