South Mountain is a town in Coryell County, Texas, United States. The population was 384 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Killeen–Temple–Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area.
South Mountain is located in east-central Coryell County at 31°26′6″N 97°40′36″W / 31.43500°N 97.67667°W (31.435056, -97.676587), along U.S. Route 84. It is 4 miles (6 km) east of the center of Gatesville and 16 miles (26 km) west of McGregor.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of South Mountain has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.2 km2), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 412 people, 146 households, and 121 families residing in the town. The population density was 252.9 people per square mile (97.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 86.89% White, 1.94% African American, 3.40% Asian, 7.04% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races.
