South Yorkshire Cricket League

South Yorkshire Cricket League (formerly known as The South Riding League) is a cricket league based in South Yorkshire, England. It was formed in 1947. It has six divisions mainly of 12 teams each. It operates a two up/two down promotion and relegation system. Most clubs have several teams in the league.

The two main cup competitions within the league are the Whitworth Cup and the Michael Savage Trophy. The Whitworth Cup was open to just the top 16 teams in the league, but that has now been reduced to 8, a First round, Semi-Finals and The Final. The Mick Savage trophy was open to the 2nd XI's of the teams in the Whitworth Cup. However it seems that the format of this will change after the change in the format for the 2008 for the Whitworth Cup.

The League is one of the 4 that provides the 8 teams for the Yorkshire Council's Premier League and Division One Play-Offs.

There is a lot of promising young talent coming through the South Yorkshire league currently. One Joseph Marven of Hallam is a player that is yet to fulfill his potential, but his heroic rise from the 3rd team to the 2nds is expected this year.

Previous transfer records:

Joe Marven: £2.2 million from Denby Dale to Hallam CC aged 8

2016 Micky Savage:

Due to James 'tiny heed' Smedley's embarrassing display, Hallam lost to Rockingham
