Staunton is a town in Posey Township, Clay County, Indiana, United States. The population was 534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Staunton had its start in the year 1851 by the building of the railroad through that territory. The town was named after Staunton, Virginia.

Staunton is located at 39°29′14″N 87°11′18″W / 39.48722°N 87.18833°W / 39.48722; -87.18833 (39.487302, -87.188251).

According to the 2010 census, Staunton has a total area of 0.34 square miles (0.88 km2), all land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 534 people, 199 households, and 146 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,525.7 inhabitants per square mile (589.1/km2). There were 224 housing units at an average density of 640.0 per square mile (247.1/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.3% White, 1.5% from other races, and 0.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1% of the population.
