Surasakmontree School is a government school in Bangkok, Thailand, well known for military band, academic, football and futsal.
On 25 July 1949, Field Marshal Phin Choonhavan as Deputy Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Army realized the hardship of military children to find schools, so he decided to collect money for founding a children’s army school. On 7 September 1966, Field Marshal Prapart Jarustain as Commander in Chief, of the Royal Thai Army authorized General Tem Homsetthi to supervise the foundation.In May 1968, the school opened and accepted 600 students including children outside the army. Originally, the school only had three grades, 7-9.
In 1969, the school accepted more students in grades 5-10. The following year, it extended classes from kindergarten to grade 11. In 1971, it founded the Children’s Army Commercial College in the same area. Initially, the program taught advertising. Additionally, the next year they opened three more programs, electrical mechanics, radio technician and mechanic, and changed the name of the college to Children’s Army Vocational Training School. On 18 March 1974, the school was transferred from the Thai army to the Thailand Ministry of Education which separated the school into two locations, Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok, situated on 4.3 acres, and the other location was Surasakmontree School which is the name of the first Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Army.
At the Junior High School level, Surasakmontree school has two programs that are Gifted Education Programs (GEP) and Normal Program. In Senior High School, Surasakmontree school has 7 programs ⎯ Gifted Education Programs (GEP), Intensive English Program (IEP), Science-Math Program, English-Math Program, English-French Program, English-German Program, English-Chinese Program and Thai-Social Program.
