Tamarix sengalensis, or the Senegalese (or Senegambian) tamarisk is a species of tamarisk flowers that belong to the Tamaricaceae family.
Tamarix senegalensis are founded in the arid zone of the coasts of Africa, they are also founded on the Cape Verde islands.
In the Portuguese language, it is called “tarrafe”, and a plantation of “tarrafes” is called “tarrafal”. Hence its Senegalese tamarisks grown in the area, it gives the name to three places in Cape Verde including Tarrafal on the island of Santiago, Tarrafal de Monte Trigo on the west of Santo Antão and Tarrafal de São Nicolau on the homonymous island. It also gives the name to a neighborhood of Ribeira Grande near the town center.
Its leaves are measured between 4-5 cm long.
