The Suspended Vocation (French: La vocation suspendue) is a 1978 French drama film directed by Raúl Ruiz. It is an adaptation of the 1950 novel of the same name by Pierre Klossowski.
The film centers on a Dominican Christian Monk named Jerome and his interactions with other higher ups within the church. Ruiz’s intention was to reflect the ideological arguments that plagued left wing politics of the era.
