The War That Plagues the Lands is the second full-length album by Slechtvalk. The album reached a number 2 position in the Lowlands Top 50, the most known metal-chart from the Netherlands. The cover art was done by Kris Wervimp who is known for his works with bands like Marduk and Immortal. Slechtvalk became a full band on this album, showcasing folk vocals by Ohtar, bass playing by Nath, drumming by Grimbold, symphonic keyboards by Sorgier, and soprano vocals by Fionnghuala. The lyrical content took a more fantasy-oriented approach and talks metaphorically about a warlord and his falcon, and the rising battle between armies of good and evil, concentrating on the plot from the falcon's point of view. The album received a positive reception from the press, and was mostly criticized for the drum sound and that the music was not particularly innovative.
