The United Kingdom held a national preselection to choose the song that would go to the Eurovision Song Contest 1966. It was held on 27 January 1966 and presented by David Jacobs. The decision on the singer, Kenneth McKellar, had already been made, without any open competition.

Kenneth McKellar was chosen by the BBC internally the juries decided on the song, A Man Without Love won and was performed last in the contest, coming 9th out of 18 entries.

David Jacobs provided the BBC Television commentary, its was Jacobs' sixth and last time he provided the British commentary for the Eurovision. British Forces Radio also broadcast the contest with commentary provided by Ian Fenner. Michael Aspel served as spokesperson for the U.K Jury.

"A Man Without Love" won the national and went on to come 9th in the contest.
