Vigen Sargsyan (Armenian:Վիգեն Սարգսյանը; born May 10, 1975) is an Armenian politician, and the current Defence Minister of Armenia. He took this position in October 2016.
Sargsyan was born on May 10, 1975 in Yerevan. From 1992-1999 he enrolled in Yerevan State University and studied at the department of International Relations and has a master's degree in the "History of Diplomacy and International Relations". In 2000 he graduated from Harvard University in Law and Diplomacy and from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy Master of Arts title.
Political Carrer
In 1995 The National Assembly appointed him as an adviser to the President. From 2000 to 2003, Sargsyan served in the Armenian Armed Forces and also as an adviser to the Minister of Defence. He was a lecturer from 2001 - 2011 at the American University of Armenia. On January 27, 2009, the then President Serzh Sargsyan appointed him the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration. He held this post for over 2 years until he was dismissed in 2011.
Minister of Defence
On October 3, 2016 by order of a presidential decree he was appointed Minister of Defence by President Serzh Sargsyan. He succeeded Seyran Ohanyan as Minister of Defence.
He is Married and has three daughters. Sargsyan was born into a family of medics. He is 41 years old
