WPFR is a Christian radio station licensed to Terre Haute, Indiana, broadcasting on 1480 kHz AM. The station is owned by Word Power, Inc.
WPFR originally held the call letters WTHI. WTHI 1480 came on the air shortly after World War II, running 1,000 watts. WTHI-AM, along with WTHI-FM, and WTHI-TV had been owned by Tony Hulman until the mid-1990s, when all three stations were sold to Emmis Communications.
WTHI-AM aired a Top 40 format in the 1960s, and a News-Talk format in the 1990s. As a News Talk station, WTHI was Terre Haute's home for prominent national hosts such as Rush Limbaugh and Paul Harvey. Until 1997, WTHI carried "The Mike Pence Show", a statewide talk show which Pence hosted prior to his election to congress.
WTHI 1480 was purchased by Word Power Inc., from Emmis Communications in 1999, and it adopted its current Christian format in 2000, at which point its call letters were changed to WPFR.
