According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.9 square miles (39 km2), all of it land.
Wenden has experienced two major 100 year floods in recent history due to the flooding of the Centennial Wash. Residents were forced to evacuate to higher ground in the nearby town of Salome during these extreme rainfall events in 2000 and 2010.
As of the census of 2000, there were 556 people, 207 households, and 150 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 37.4 people per square mile (14.5/km²). There were 309 housing units at an average density of 20.8 per square mile (8.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 83.99% White, 1.26% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 12.59% from other races, and 1.98% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 44.24% of the population.
