The 10,000 Challenge
I'm including the articles improved from the WP:Awaken the Dragon and WP:West Country contests so far. Think of this as an umbrella project, and regional contests as components of the wider picture. I hope that this will attract a broader contributor base than the contests, and people will see the value in working towards such a goal long term and that it is a worthy cause, giving more meaning to even basic article improvements. So in turn I hope it gives editors more encouragement, motivation and self-esteem for their work and seeing it count towards a larger goal. If I can get the funding I would also invent some new challenges and tasks aside from contests to make editing more enjoyable and edgy. So let's see what we can achieve in the spirit of collaboration. With enough contributors this could really work.. The Awaken the Dragon and West Country projects combined reached 1500 articles in 6 or 7 weeks. This is achievable, but we need numbers to help build this!
Anybody who is interested in writing articles on anything related to the British Isles and think they might like to chip in with this long term sign up below. This can include anybody who might be contributing in the contests and independent editors who just want to see content improved. The more people we have contributing and supporting this the sooner we'll reach the target! You don't have to commit regularly to this, anything which can be added whenever is appreciated. If we could get contributors from all over the UK and Ireland on a range of topics this will increase the diversity and make it all more interesting. I don't think anything like this has been attempted before so whatever area of the UK and Ireland you like to work on, put your work up on here in one combined effort! If possible try to avoid short stubs, as the overall aim is quality improvement, but well-sourced meatier stub articles are welcome.
