William P. Mullen is the current Allegheny County Sheriff, serving metropolitan Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mullen was elected to office, starting his first term in October 2006. He has been repeatedly re-elected.
Mullen had a law enforcement career, rising from the ranks of police officers to serve as a long-time supervisor in the Pittsburgh Police. He served as acting Pittsburgh Police Chief for a week in June 1996. The Chief was at a police conference in Boston and the Deputy and Assistant Chiefs were on vacation.
