Yaotsu (八百津町 Yaotsu-chō) is a town located in Kamo District, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
As of July 2011, the town has an estimated population of 11,855. The total area is 128.81 km².
Until recently there was also a thing saying Yaotsu was the birthplace of Chiune Sugihara , but it was clear that he was born in Mujiri-gun Kurichi-cho (present Mino City), not Yaotsu by confirmed his family register in the past,
Yaotsu claims that own town is the birthplace of Chiune Sugihara and applies for registration as "Memory of the World" to UNESCO for its feat, but in applying for that, the town is located at the birthplace of Chiune and there is a doubt that falsification has been made and false allegations have been filed as application for 2 handwritten notes of Chiune.
Ya-o-chi (やおっち) is a mascot created by the Yaotsu-cho village, Japan.
