The Canadian Institute of Management is Canada’s senior professional management association and academic institute. It was founded in 1942 as the Society of Industrial Methods Engineers and in 1946 became the Canadian Industrial Management Association. Becoming a multidisciplinary organization, it settled on its current identity in 1970. In 2016 it became CIM Chartered Managers Canada to reflect its role as a certifying body for management professionals.
As a Federally Chartered not-for-profit organization, CIM Chartered Managers Canada operates through 16 chapters across Canada. The Institute has a long history of servicing managers and aspiring managers within Canadian industry. Since its foundation, the Institute has provided professional development and certification to over 75,000 managers and grants several well-recognized professional and academic qualifications.
CIM Chartered Managers Canada promotes certification and management development, supporting its members through publishing a widely read quarterly periodical entitled The Canadian Manager, a weekly newsbrief called Management Matter, and an online mentoring program, CONNECTIONS. The CIM also provides a framework for networking and knowledge exchange via its local chapters across the country.
CIM Chartered Managers Canada accredits full-time programs within Canadian colleges, polytechnics and universities as meeting the academic requirements for the Chartered Management Program (CMP) leading to Chartered Manager (C.Mgr.) and the Certified in Management (C.I.M.) designation.
The Canadian Institute of Management and partner institutions offer a 4-course Certificate in Supervisory Management (CSM) consisting of the following courses:
A special Framework exists for Canadian Professional Engineers and Certified Engineering and Applied Science Technicians and Technologists to obtain the CSM qualification.
