Evangelical Church of India

The Evangelical Church of India (ECI) is a major Christian denomination in India. It has Allahabad Bible Seminary in Allahabad, Calcutta Bible Seminary in Kolkata and Madras Theological Seminary and College in Chennai. Its existence is because of the activity of the Oriental Missionary Society, (OMS International). Bishop Dr.M. Ezra Sargunam was consecrated bishop in 1993. The church has more than 100,000 members. The denomination is relatively progressive and, in 2012, ordained its first openly transgender pastor.
