Muri is a census town in Ranchi district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Muri is also divided into two parts Chota Muri and Bara Muri. It is an important railway junction. It is located on the bank of Subarnarekha River. Connected with Ranchi city by State Highway No. 1. There are many parks like Muri Tungri Park, Deer Park, Ambedkar Park are located here. A well known famous school of Muri is Ursuline English Medium School Muri.
As of 2001[update] India census, Muri had a population of 11,999. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Muri has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 62%. In Muri, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Muri Junction is the railway station serving the city of Muri. It is well connected with cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Jammu, Ajmer,and many other cities by rail route. By road well connected with Ranchi, Ramgarh, Jamshedpur, purulia, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Durgapur Etc
An Alumina Refinery plant of the Indian Aluminum Company, operating since 1938, is located here. The company is now owned by Hindalco Limited of Aditya Birla Group.
