The ninth cycle of Holland's Next Top Model premiered on 30 August 2016. Like the three previous cycles, this cycle was hosted by Anouk Smulders. May-Britt Mobach and Dirk Kikstra did not return as judges this cycle and were replaced by fashion blogger Anna Nooshin and fashion photographer Alek Bruessing. Fred van Leer continued his role as the contestants' coach and also sat on the judging panel as well. The cast consisted of 12 contestants, with the international destination being set in Ibiza. The winner of the competition was 20 year-old Akke Marije Marinus, from Dokkum.

The show went over the process by which the aspiring contestants were pared down to the final 12 after a mass casting with the judges. The finalists later met for the first time, and took part in their first photo shoot session, where they shot their promotional photographs and filmed the show's opening sequence. After moving into the top model home, the contestants prepared for the first elimination. Anouk arrived at the house the following day with a final cut of the opening titles, and revealed that the model not featured in the opening would be eliminated. Ultimately, it was revealed that Nynke would not be moving on in the competition. At the end of the episode however, Anouk revealed that a public vote would be able to bring back one of the eliminated models.
